Some examples of research projects from Dr. Taylor's lab are described below.

fUNGAL ULTRASTRUCTURE

Harlan Svoboda (B.S. 2011) examined reproductive structure of the bird's nest fungus (Cyathus striatus) and investigated physical and chemical factors that affected their germination.

Ultrastructure of diseased plants

Master science teachers studied the physiological effects of leaf spots on indiangrass (Sorgastrum nutans) and examined diseased tissue for the presence of fungal reproductive structures (Summer 2011).

New host - pathogen combinations

Madison Nelson (M.S. 2013) identified Phoma sorghina as a leaf spot pathogen of S. nutans and used electron microscopy to examine the infection process.

disease resistance

Paul Gray (M.S. 2010) used scanning electron microscopy to characterize the surface morphology of disease resistant genotypes of S. nutans.

plant ultrastructure

Dr. Shiyou Li and Dr. Taylor characterized micromorphological variations of Camptotheca Decaisne (Pharmaceutical Crops 2014, 5:116-119).
